Summary

She never wanted to come back。 He never wants to leave。 The town of Maple Falls has plans for them both。

Riley McAllister is living the dream in New York City 。 。 。 if the dream means being a struggling mixed-media artist, part-time food delivery driver, and having a carefully curated social media to hide all of the above。 She refuses to admit defeat and move back to small-town Maple Falls, but when her grandmother breaks her leg sliding into third base during a softball game (she was safe, by the way), Riley reluctantly agrees to go home and help the woman who raised her—while secretly hoping she can convince Mimi to sell her house and yarn shop and move in with a good friend。 Then Riley can return to her new life in NYC, on her own and for good。

But Mimi has her own plans, which include setting Riley up with local baseball star Hayden Price, who returned to Maple Falls after an injury ended his major league career。 Now he works at his father’s hardware store, coaches the church softball team, and worries about the declining town。 It’s not the life he dreamed of having。

With a little meddling and a lot of kindness from the town, Hayden and Riley find themselves unexpectedly falling for each other as they discover the true meaning of home

Welcome to Maple Falls, where everyone knows your name and your business。

“A sweet, refreshing tale of idyllic small-town life, family, and unexpected romance, Hooked on You is the perfect read to cozy up with on a rainy day。”—Melissa Ferguson, multi-award-winning author of The Cul-de-Sac War

Riley has not returned to the town of Maple Falls for nine years。 Throughout the book, her reasons why became apparent, but her grandmother still longs for her to return。 When Erma gets injured during a softball game, she finally has a reason to get her granddaughter to return。When his plans do not play out as expected, Hayden also returns to his hometown。 But he has come to stay。 Can he convince Riley that there are some compelling reasons to stay in town, and that one of them is him?Overall I Riley has not returned to the town of Maple Falls for nine years。 Throughout the book, her reasons why became apparent, but her grandmother still longs for her to return。 When Erma gets injured during a softball game, she finally has a reason to get her granddaughter to return。When his plans do not play out as expected, Hayden also returns to his hometown。 But he has come to stay。 Can he convince Riley that there are some compelling reasons to stay in town, and that one of them is him?Overall I enjoyed this clean romance。 I thought the back stories were compelling。 And I loved the emphasis on friendship and finding a supportive community。 The "Bosom Buddies" and "The Three Musketeers" definitely added fun to the storyline,I liked the story。 Then there was a pivotal moment when everything clicked。 At that point, the story became even more compelling。 Except for one part 。。。 the author used the word "sexy" several times, and I thought that she could have used a different word。 The physical part of the relationship was not the emphasis, so I personally thought that word seemed jarring。 Obviously that is my personal bias。I do want to read the rest of this series。 This was the first book that I read by Kathleen Fuller, and I enjoyed her writing style。 I appreciate the publisher letting me read this book on NetGalley。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 3/5 for Hooked on You。 This was a sweet, clean romance novel。 Riley fled her small town of Maple Falls, Arkansas, for New York City nearly a decade ago, hoping to make it big as an artist。 Still, she has not found the success she hoped for, and when her grandmother, Mimi, breaks her leg, Riley sublets her apartment and returns home for the first time。Hayden Price has returned to Maple Falls after his baseball career came to a crashing halt in his first Major League baseball game。 He now works at 3/5 for Hooked on You。 This was a sweet, clean romance novel。 Riley fled her small town of Maple Falls, Arkansas, for New York City nearly a decade ago, hoping to make it big as an artist。 Still, she has not found the success she hoped for, and when her grandmother, Mimi, breaks her leg, Riley sublets her apartment and returns home for the first time。Hayden Price has returned to Maple Falls after his baseball career came to a crashing halt in his first Major League baseball game。 He now works at his father's hardware store and coaching the church softball team where Mimi broke her leg sliding into third base。In a small town where most young people have moved away, Hayden and Riley find themselves thrown into the same social circle, partly thanks to Mimi's machinations, partly thanks to their mutual attraction for each other。For the most part, the book was cute, and I enjoyed seeing Riley come to life as she fixed up the yarn store and Hayden's enthusiasm for main street revitalization。 Coming from a small town, not unlike Maple Falls myself, it was lovely to see。What I despited was the drama with Riley's mother。 The author implies that Riley's mother became a drug addict and neglectful teenage mother because she was adopted; that when she was adopted as a baby, she was already "screwed up," so no love or parenting could have saved her。Also, I didn't particularly appreciate that Mimi's friends ganged up on Riley when Mimi betrayed Riley。 Riley walks out after learning that her grandmother paid off her mother to leave the girl behind - the root of Riley's abandonment issues - and they attack Riley for being cruel to Mimi。 Mimi also lied to them, implying that Riley was home for good! Hooked On You by Kathleen Fuller is a first for me by her as a contemporary romance author。 I've read several of her Amish romance books and enjoyed them all。 This book is about a young woman going home to her small town in Arkansas from New York to help her grandma out。 She is a bit hard to warm up to。 However, I liked the hero and the other characters really well。 This book looks like it is the first in a series。 *I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and this is my hones Hooked On You by Kathleen Fuller is a first for me by her as a contemporary romance author。 I've read several of her Amish romance books and enjoyed them all。 This book is about a young woman going home to her small town in Arkansas from New York to help her grandma out。 She is a bit hard to warm up to。 However, I liked the hero and the other characters really well。 This book looks like it is the first in a series。 *I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and this is my honest opinion 。。。more

I was really looking forward to reading this one。 The cover is downright adorable。 I loved the premise of a woman having to return to the hometown she vowed never to see again, and I'm usually all about small town, Christian contemporary romances。 While I appreciated that it's sweet, quirky and a pretty quick read to get through, I have to be honest and say that it wasn't quite what I was expecting, and I didn't end up enjoying it as much as I expected to。On the surface, it had everything I usua I was really looking forward to reading this one。 The cover is downright adorable。 I loved the premise of a woman having to return to the hometown she vowed never to see again, and I'm usually all about small town, Christian contemporary romances。 While I appreciated that it's sweet, quirky and a pretty quick read to get through, I have to be honest and say that it wasn't quite what I was expecting, and I didn't end up enjoying it as much as I expected to。On the surface, it had everything I usually love in a story。 However, as I got further and further into it, I kept feeling like something was missing。 I never really connected with either of the main characters, and in fact, Riley was pretty much just grating on my nerves for most of the story。 I also never really got that invested in the story, and I didn't really find myself feeling for anything that was happening throughout the entirety of the story。The climax was built up for quite awhile, and yet when it happens it kind of felt like it was all resolved trim and tidy, without really making me feel like anything had ever truly been resolved。That being said, I did still think this was a cute read, and I'm honestly looking forward to the rest of the series。 One of the things that did stand out to me with this one was the secondary cast of characters, especially Harper, Olivia and Anita, and so I'm very much looking forward to them hopefully getting their own stories in the future。Overall, this was a sweet, enjoyable read but isn't my favorite by this author, and I don't think it will be a reread for me。 If you enjoy small town romances that are clean and cutesy, then you should definitely go ahead and check this one out。Final Rating: 3/5。Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read and review this!I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Thomas Nelson) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。 I was not required to give a positive review。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

As a knitter, I REALLY wanted to like this book。 I figured it was combining two of my favorite things - knitting and romance。 So it had to be great, right?Sadly, this book had WAY too much drama for me。 It’s not often that I want to reach into a book to shake some sense into the main character, but that’s exactly what happened in this book。Riley hasn’t been back to the small Arkansas town where her grandmother lives in 10 years。 She doesn’t want people to talk about her; she feels like she doesn As a knitter, I REALLY wanted to like this book。 I figured it was combining two of my favorite things - knitting and romance。 So it had to be great, right?Sadly, this book had WAY too much drama for me。 It’s not often that I want to reach into a book to shake some sense into the main character, but that’s exactly what happened in this book。Riley hasn’t been back to the small Arkansas town where her grandmother lives in 10 years。 She doesn’t want people to talk about her; she feels like she doesn’t fit in; she’s embarrassed of her druggie mother; and the list goes on and on。 In other words, she’s a real head case。 Hayden threw one pitch in the major leagues and promptly ended his baseball career before it ever began。 So he came back to the same small town to work for his dad at the hardware store they owned。 Riley & Hayden knew each other from high school, but they didn’t really speak because she has always been a head case and he was too focused on baseball。 But now that they are back in the same small town, they begin to feel the chemistry between them。 Only Riley runs away from Hayden for 75% of the book。 Obviously Hayden is the head case because he stays around - I couldn’t ever figure that one out。It could be a cute story if Riley didn’t act like such a weirdo for most of the book。 She seriously suffers from an inferiority complex big time - I honestly saw nothing appealing about her so I’m still confused as to why hunky Hayden would be so attracted to her。And the small town where they live was just depressing - all the locally owned stores were closing for good, etc。 Hayden & Riley wanted to single handedly save the city, but not quite sure they will ever get enough customers to make a difference。I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 The opinions stated above are mine without biases。 。。。more

Hooked on You has all the makings of a great romance novel - returning to one’s hometown to help rejuvenate a family business, a burnt out sports star finding a new direction for his life, a small town setting and a quirky group of old friends who like to meddle。 Sadly, I wasn’t able to connect with the main characters in the way that I wanted and the writing and dialogue was a bit stilted, leaving me unsatisfied with the plot。 A light and easy read, but not one of my favourites of the genre。 Ha Hooked on You has all the makings of a great romance novel - returning to one’s hometown to help rejuvenate a family business, a burnt out sports star finding a new direction for his life, a small town setting and a quirky group of old friends who like to meddle。 Sadly, I wasn’t able to connect with the main characters in the way that I wanted and the writing and dialogue was a bit stilted, leaving me unsatisfied with the plot。 A light and easy read, but not one of my favourites of the genre。 Hayden has returned home to Maple Falls to help run his father’s hardware business。 After finally making it to the Majors in baseball, he blew out his shoulder on his first pitch。 Riley has returned to Maple Falls after her grandmother is injured during a softball game。 Riley is just counting down the days until she can return to New York and finding her place as a mixed media artist, but being ‘home’ and getting to know Hayden again makes her reassess her life goals。 A sweet book, it was the lack of depth to the characters and their background stories that made this an okay book for me, rather than one I adored。 Not a lot happens in the story and I found it hard to believe in Riley and Hayden’s connection。 The prose and dialogue is a little stilted, and I’m not sure how realistic Hayden’s voice was at times。 The drama introduced at the end was overly dramatic and just added to my overall disinterest in the story。 Sadly this one just wasn’t for me, but might be good for readers who are looking for a laid back and light romance。 The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes。 All opinions are my own。Find more reviews, reading age guides, content advisory, and recommendations on my blog Madison's Library 。。。more

This story gave me everything I want when I look for a romantic women’s fiction book。 It was set in a charming, although declining, small town。 It had a group of dear friends who acted like a sisterhood, self-named the Bosom Buddies。 They could always be counted on to speak the truth in order to encourage and exhort one another; to show up and help pick up the pieces when life was hard; and to celebrate with you when life was good。 And the book had a beautiful love story between handsome and kin This story gave me everything I want when I look for a romantic women’s fiction book。 It was set in a charming, although declining, small town。 It had a group of dear friends who acted like a sisterhood, self-named the Bosom Buddies。 They could always be counted on to speak the truth in order to encourage and exhort one another; to show up and help pick up the pieces when life was hard; and to celebrate with you when life was good。 And the book had a beautiful love story between handsome and kind Hayden and beautiful but broken Riley。 There were also some appealing secondary characters who I hope will get their own stories in future books。 I was hooked right from the start all the way through to the last page。 Highly recommend! Hooked on You is my first Kathleen Fuller book。 Riley pulled at my heart and Hayden is the right person to bring her out of her dysfunctional past。 They are drawn to each other and maybe if they can learn to trust the future will be brighter。

If you like Hallmark and Lifetime made for TV romances, you will enjoy this story。 There isn’t any real depth or substance to the plot, but it provides light and easy escape into the characters’ lives and their romantic entanglements。 The story moves along at a slow and steady pace until it reaches its predicted end。

Hooked on You is a light-hearted, small-town romance that suffers from being a bit too shallow。 I haven't read any of Fuller's other books, so I don't know if this book is a one-off from her usual fair in terms of limited character development, but I quickly found myself irritated with characters who had too much unfulfilled potential。Riley and Hayden both have interesting backstories, but these histories are shared in bits and pieces and never really feel quite real。 Riley in particular has a f Hooked on You is a light-hearted, small-town romance that suffers from being a bit too shallow。 I haven't read any of Fuller's other books, so I don't know if this book is a one-off from her usual fair in terms of limited character development, but I quickly found myself irritated with characters who had too much unfulfilled potential。Riley and Hayden both have interesting backstories, but these histories are shared in bits and pieces and never really feel quite real。 Riley in particular has a fairly tragic past, and I would've liked to have read some flashbacks that really showed how terrible her young life had been and how that influenced her present-day character。 Instead, we just get the same platitudes over and over, and even when the 'villain' of the tale shows up, she feels like more of a stand-in for all things evil than a true character with a problem and bad relationships。I also didn't feel like Riley had enough character growth。 Hooked on You is over 300 pages, and the heroine feels stagnant for a good three-fourths of the novel; this made the story feel as if it was dragging on and on。 Hadyen, the hero, had more growth, but I still could've used a few flashbacks from his POV to see how he'd really changed。 I also felt like Riley and Hayden's relationship moved too quickly。 Both characters are working through some personal issues, and while I can believe the slow beginning of things, the ending felt entirely too rushed, like Fuller simply wanted to cram in a grand happy ending when a pleasantly-happy ending would've sufficed and felt more realistic。 As this looks like the first book in the series, we could've easily gotten snippets of Riley and Hayden's growing relationships in subsequent books, which would've lent to the feel of a small town where everybody knows everybody's business and allowed Riley and Hayden to naturally grow closer together before taking any big steps。All those downsides aside, I always like stories set in small towns, and Maple Falls is the sort of small town to which I can really relate。 What was once a thriving place is suffering from the loss of business and general aging, and Riley and Hayden make it part of their mission to spruce things up。 I can see this being a running theme throughout the following books, and I think that will be a fun angle to play up。 I also really liked spending time in Knots and Tangles, and although I have no interest in knitting, crocheting, or yarn in general, it was a unique hobby that I haven't seen included in many books。 Unfortunately, the things I liked weren't anywhere near enough to overcome the shallow characters, the meandering plot, and the underdeveloped backstories。 Hooked on You may appeal to regular readers of Fuller, but most readers of contemporary Christian romances will be looking for a deeper story to keep their interest。Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

It was the title and cover that made me request this book to read but the story kept me reading till early hours of the morning。 The characters held me bound with their love, wit, challenges, struggles, wins and victories。 They were so real and relatable。 Their stories jumped at me off the pages of the book。 I love happy endings and this had one sweet one filled with second chances, reconciliation, hope and restoration。 I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and this is my honest opinion。

Hooked on You is a sweet small town romance。 As someone who lives near, and loves, a small town, I enjoyed getting to "meet" Maple Falls and all the characters who call it home。 Riley is a typical struggling artist, far from the closest places she's ever thought of as home。 Former baseball star, Hayden has been forced to return home after the injury that ended his career。 When Mimi, Riley's grandma, pulls a stunt that finally brings her home, Riley is confronted by the past she's tried to run fr Hooked on You is a sweet small town romance。 As someone who lives near, and loves, a small town, I enjoyed getting to "meet" Maple Falls and all the characters who call it home。 Riley is a typical struggling artist, far from the closest places she's ever thought of as home。 Former baseball star, Hayden has been forced to return home after the injury that ended his career。 When Mimi, Riley's grandma, pulls a stunt that finally brings her home, Riley is confronted by the past she's tried to run from for so long。 Can Hayden break through the walls Riley hides behind and show her that trust--and love--is worth everything? Will they be able to save their struggling town, or will Maple Falls fade from existence?I loved every moment of this book, and can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the series。 Mimi was definitely one of my favourite characters。 She's quirky, but sweet, and although her actions tend to be a little on the sneaky side, she genuinely loves her family and friends, and wants the best for them。 Hayden and Riley's love story is a bit of a roller coaster, but Hayden is the perfect hero, and I enjoyed seeing Riley's character grow and learn to trust again。 Contemporary romance fans: don't miss this one! *I received a copy of Hooked on You through the publisher and NetGalley。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 My positive review is not required。 。。。more

I absolutely adored this lighthearted read by Kathleen Fuller。 Witty, romantic, fast paced, and nostaligic, the book encompasses all I love about small towns。 That meddlesome but endearing group of grandmas, those friends who can't keep themselves out of everyone's business, and that small town feel of unity all filled the pages of this book。Sweet, quirky, emotional, and genuine are all words that describe Hooked on You。 I was immediately captivated as the plot pulled me to a place where I could I absolutely adored this lighthearted read by Kathleen Fuller。 Witty, romantic, fast paced, and nostaligic, the book encompasses all I love about small towns。 That meddlesome but endearing group of grandmas, those friends who can't keep themselves out of everyone's business, and that small town feel of unity all filled the pages of this book。Sweet, quirky, emotional, and genuine are all words that describe Hooked on You。 I was immediately captivated as the plot pulled me to a place where I could feel the hearts of the characters。 And while Fuller typically writes for the Amish genre, her contemporary storytelling ability is spot on。 I am anxiously awaiting the next installment in this Maple Falls Romance series!I received a copy of this book from Netgalley。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

Riley McAllister dreams of becoming a famous artist, and following that dream means moving from Maple Falls, Arkansas, to big city New York。 While she is able to make the rent, it's not her art that pays the bills。 When she gets the call that the grandmother who raised her from her teen years on broke her leg sliding into third at a church softball game, her goal is to care for her grandmother, convince her to sell her shop, and convince her to move in with a friend。 Then, Riley can flee back to Riley McAllister dreams of becoming a famous artist, and following that dream means moving from Maple Falls, Arkansas, to big city New York。 While she is able to make the rent, it's not her art that pays the bills。 When she gets the call that the grandmother who raised her from her teen years on broke her leg sliding into third at a church softball game, her goal is to care for her grandmother, convince her to sell her shop, and convince her to move in with a friend。 Then, Riley can flee back to New York with a clear conscience。 However, she doesn't count on her Mimi's stubbornness, or on re-connecting with Hayden Price, her high school crush。Hayden Price's life hasn't turned out like he planned it either。 He was supposed to play MLB and have a nice long career pitching for the Tigers。 Instead, he blew out his shoulder on his first pitch and in rushing his rehab, damaged it badly enough to end his career dream。 Back home in Maple Falls, he is helping his dad run the family hardware store and coaching the church's softball team on the side。 Riley's appearance is a pleasant distraction。 Can Riley overcome her past hurts to see that Maple Falls and Hayden just might be her future? So, I spent most of this book frustrated with Riley and how closed off she is to nearly everyone。 I was equally frustrated with her grandmother for pushing her own agenda so hard that she pushed Riley away。 The supporting characters were mostly fun, with the exception of Riley's mother, Tracey。 I believe this is the first contemporary romance I've read from Kathleen Fuller。 I know her more for her Amish fiction/romance novels。 I'm kind of hoping she'll tell Harper's story next。 Readers who enjoy contemporary romance will enjoy Riley and Hayden's story。 I know I did!I received this free from the publisher, but every opinion here is MINE! 。。。more
